Fundraise for Starlight and Win Two Tickets to A Stellar Night Gala in Beverly Hills
Starlight is pleased to announce a brand new partnership with First Giving, an online portal that you can use to create a personal fundraising web page to benefit the children and families we serve.
The pages are easy to set up! Simply visit www.firstgiving.com/starlight, and First Giving will walk you through the process. You'll see, the possibilities are endless:
1) Commit time and energy - run a marathon, participate in a tournament, set up a lemonade stand
2) Help raise money - initiate a giving challenge with your friends, have friends make donations in lieu of gifts for your birthday, bar mitzvah or wedding
3) Make a personal pledge
Once you choose how you'd like to show your support, First Giving provides all the tools you need to build your page. You can even add your favorite YouTube video, or post pictures from your Flickr account.
However you choose to show your support, your First Giving web page will help Starlight raise funds and awareness that will make a real difference in the lives of seriously ill children and their families.
To kick off this new fundraising initiative, Starlight is offering a special incentive during the month of February. Starting today, and continuing until Feb. 29, the individual who raises the most money over $1,000 through his or her site will receive two tickets to Starlight's 2008 A Stellar Night gala at the famous Beverly Hilton Hotel in Beverly Hills on Friday, March 28. This year, the star-studded gala will be hosted by the phenomenal Corbin Bleu of High School Musical and will honor William and Elizabeth Shatner with the Heart of Gold Award and Francine R. Kaufman, M.D., renowned expert on diabetes, with the Jacki Carlish Humanitarian Award.
So, encourage your friends and family members to join you in improving the lives of sick children and their families by contributing money in your honor. And, if you're a Facebook member, add the First Giving application to your profile to help you spread the word about your efforts by simply clicking here.
To build your personal fundraising page, click here to get started today! We'd love to see you on the red carpet in March!
Please pass this on to your friends and family and help spread the word!

Kate joins Dynasty's Fallon for charity work
By Nathan Kay
Last updated at 12:13 AM on 28th September 2008
Bitterly stung by suggestions she is work-shy, Prince William’s girlfriend Kate Middleton has created a new ‘job’ for herself – working on a charity project with a star from Dynasty.
The 26-year-old has joined forces with Emma Samms, who played Fallon Carrington Colby in the glitzy Eighties soap opera, to help 10,000 sick and dying children enjoy a memorable Christmas party.
She has forged a link between her parents’ gift company Party Pieces and the Starlight children’s foundation, founded by Samms, to provide goodie bags, entertainment and decorations for 200 events to be held in hospitals across Britain this December.
Kate will be hoping the project will help shed her hated image as ‘Waity Katie’, drifting through life until she can marry into the Royal Family.
A source told The Mail on Sunday: ‘When Kate was on the receiving end of a media backlash for her apparent lack of interest in finding a job, she thought it would be a great idea to spend her time working for her parents’ company.
‘Setting up links to the charity should help turn around her work-shy image.’
In June, the Queen voiced concerns that 25-year-old William should not announce an engagement to his girlfriend until she had secured herself a full-time job.
Since quitting her position as an accessories buyer for High Street chain Jigsaw last year – the only job she has had since graduating from St Andrews University in 2004 with a 2:1 in history of art – Kate has appeared to be in no rush to find a new career.
But friends say that her carefree image is ill-deserved as she has been working hard in a mundane nine-to-five job with Party Pieces, compiling catalogues, photographing items for the website and setting up a division of the company specialising in gifts for babies’ first birthdays.
Earlier this month, she organised a charity roller-disco, hitting the headlines when she took an embarrassing tumble in yellow hot-pants at the event.
Now she hopes her new venture with Starlight will further promote the image that she is doing something worthwhile with her time.
Samms told The Mail on Sunday: ‘I find it terribly exciting that there are going to be 10,000 children who will get party bags and parties this Christmas, thanks to Party Pieces. We are extremely thrilled, as you can imagine.
‘They will be supplying us with all of the decorations and toys to play with, and the children are all going to get party bags.
am looking forward to meeting up with Kate soon to thank her properly for what she has done for Starlight. It is such a huge donation.
‘What a great thing they are doing – and what a great change it will make to these kids.’
Emma set up her Los Angeles-based foundation in 1983 – before she shot to fame in Dynasty – with her film producer cousin Peter Samuelson with the aim of improving the quality of life for seriously ill children and their families.
In the first year it operated in Britain, the charity helped just four children; this year it will help more than 500,000.
Kate decided to become involved with the organisation after attending a charity boxing night in aid of Starlight in June.
There she was ‘extremely touched’ by 19-year-old cystic fibrosis sufferer Bianca Nicolas.
Starlight had granted the wannabe pop star’s wish to attend the event, sing to the audience and meet celebrities including Prince William, Prince Harry and their girlfriends.
A source said: ‘Kate spoke to both Bianca and a representative for the charity at the Boodles boxing match and was very touched by the great work they do.’
The annual event is staged by Kate’s friend Charlie Gilkes, a party organiser and owner of Kitts nightclub in Sloane Square, and raised £120,000 for Starlight.
Sarah Dawson, the foundation’s director of corporate fundraising, said: ‘Kate was one of the guests at the Boodles boxing event. She was very touched by the wish being granted and by what Starlight does.
‘She could see an immediate way that she could link the charity with her company.
‘Our relationship is still in the early stages and I will be liaising directly with Kate. She will be putting everything together for us, from the pantomime that goes on to the paper cups.
‘It’s amazing and fantastic what they are doing to transform the children’s time in hospital. There is no money involved.
‘We are thrilled as they are a lovely company and everything they do will appeal to the children.’
Kate's turned her back on friends, says Blake star
As Kate Middleton struggles to improve her work reputation, she has unexpectedly come under fire from another quarter - old university pals who accuse her of 'turning her back' on them.
Jules Knight, who studied art history alongside Kate at St Andrews University and lived next door to Prince William, claims several people are 'upset' the 26-year-old appears to have 'made a conscious decision' not to stay in touch.
The singer, a member of the classical boy-band Blake, says Kate was embarrassed when he recently tackled her over the fact. |
